Takedown Tuesdays

I have decided for my theme day to be "Take-Down" Tuesdays. This is just a place for us to reflect on the tournaments from the past weekend. It is great to be able to give the kids some recognition, and praise, for all the hardwork they put in throughout the week for them to be successful and compete week-in and week- out.

This week we had a strong tournament showing with 35 kids wrestling in Vicksburg, MI. This is usually one of the toughest tournaments of the year. The Niles Vikings  had 16 kids place which is the highest number for any one team in the tournament.

What became more impressive throughout the tournament compared to most was how technical the Niles wrestlers had wrestled. We had 7 tech-falls in one day, beating an opponent 15-0 in a match, with 19 of the other matches coming by way of a pinning combination.

There were some Niles kids that set tournaments best this weekend setting the standards high for other wrestling clubs.

Logan Hilt - Fastest pin 11.3 sec., 1 tech fall and a 2nd place medal.
Connor Tibbits - Tech falled two different matches, 2nd fastest pin 13.4 sec., and took home 2nd.
Hunter Fazi -  Pinned all his opponents taking home a 1st place medal.
Nathan Hollingsworth- Tech falled his first opponent and wrestled a hard overtime match for his 1st place medal.

All-Stars of the week:  The whole Niles Wrestling Program!

You couldn't of asked the kids to of done more. They all wrestled their hearts out and left it all on the mat.  Win or lose it was good experience for the kids and they all deserve a round of applause for their efforts.

Self-Introduction Blog

My name is Alex Hilt.  I am currently a senior social informatics student at IU South Bend.  I recently took over the Niles Michigan youth wrestling club, which is part of the myway organization. I have wrestled since I have been about 4 years old and have a lot of knowledge of the sport. However, coaching has brought many different challenges than just being an athlete.  I pride myself in running a solid program that helps promote individual growth in an individual in every aspect of life, instead of just a winning athlete.
